What are filament LED lamps?

A filament LED lamp (LED filament light bulb in English) is an electric light source in which LED filaments are housed in a glass bulb similar to an incandescent lamp.

The LED filament light bulb is very reminiscent of the charm of the old incandescent lamp. Due to the lack of a heat sink, the light is also cast to the rear. Dark shadows are now also a thing of the past with LED lamps. The lamp produces a pleasant warm white light and creates a cozy atmosphere. With its wide beam angle, the lamp is ideal for illuminating rooms.

LED filament lamps consist largely of the same components as classic incandescent lamps with carbon filament or tungsten filament. These are:

The entire lamp base, whose metallic part of the outer skin represents the electrical contacts.
The glass lamp base, with a vacuum-tight feed-through of the power supply to the actual luminous components, in this case an array of LED filaments
An internal gas
The glass outer bulb

In addition, LED filament lamps also contain a small power supply unit, typically built into the lamp base, which converts the AC voltage from the mains to the DC voltage needed to operate the light-emitting diodes. Due to the length and orientation of the LED filaments, the appearance of LED filament lamps when switched on is more reminiscent of a carbon filament lamp than an incandescent lamp with a tungsten filament.

LED filament lamps are available with clear/matte glass or gold glass bulbs in dimmable or non-dimmable versions to provide the right lighting ambience in living spaces.
